Summer School Marseille 24

This summer school was organized by the École nationale supérieure de paysage Versailles/Marseille and took place in Marseille. The design subject in the Mediterranean coastal city of Marseille was the complex relationship between the city, the coast, and the sea. Focusing specifically on Marseille’s largest beach and its surroundings – Les Plages du Prado – topics included the cultural significance and collective imagination of the beach landscape. Various design methods, workshop formats, and excursions helped students to explore the complex interrelationships of this interesting landscape system. The goal was to design the future development of this location in a dynamic and changing maritime environment. The first few days were spent intensively on site, while the second half of the summer school was spent in the school’s studios, working on a collective concept and design for the beach landscape of the future.
